The starting point for this Letterbox-Hybrid is at the intersection of Atlantic Street and Tiger Way/Center Street. Driving in a southwesterly direction, you will be heading toward present day Downtown Roseville. The railroad tracks will be on your right. There will be several streets off to your left, but ignore these. There is, however, a cow you can wave to on the left.
· The next main street you will come to on the right is Yosemite Street. Do not turn, but continue on straight toward a curve (first left & then right) in the road. On your right (during the curve) you will see the two vintage train cars on display.
· Continue in a southwestern direction under the green arch welcoming you to Vernon Street in Downtown Roseville. At this point, you will want to be in the left-hand lane.
· You will come to a light signal. Turn left onto Lincoln Street.
· Travel in a southeastern direction for one block to the first right. Turn onto Oak Street at the light signal.
· Now you are headed for the new “roundabout”. If you want to have a little fun, stay in the left lane and drive around endlessly in the inner circle (like Chevy Chase did in “National Lampoon’s European Adventure”). Or if you have better things to do (like geocaching), take the right lane and turn to your right, onto Washington Blvd.
· Continue under the underpass in a northeastern direction. You are presently on the old State Highway 99. You will want to be in the right lane.
· When you come out from the underpass, you will be approaching Old Historic Roseville very quickly. Make the first right onto Church Street.
· Enjoy the old town, buildings, and atmosphere by continuing all the way to the end of Church Street.
· Now turn left (north) onto Lincoln Street for a very, very short distance to the next street on your left. (There are two possible left turn streets here, so make sure you take the sharp left one, not the one that is straighter, but veers to the left.) You should now be on Main Street.
· Drive all the way down Main Street to the light signal and get in the left turn lane. (There are also a few options to turn here, but you will want to turn on the road that goes left in front of the 7-11.) You will now be turning onto Washington Blvd (heading back toward the underpass that you recently came thru).
· You will pass by High Street and then you will see the church on the next block. You will be turning right after the church on the next street –Church Street. Admire the craftsmanship of this beautiful church, which is still in use.
· Now we want to get back onto Washington Blvd, so we will go around the block. (turn right onto North Grant Street, drive past High Street as well as a couple of small alleys, then turn right on Berkeley Avenue). You should come out on Main Street, Turn right, heading east, to the light signal. You should be in the left turning lane.
· Turn left back onto Washington Blvd. There will be a curve and then it will straighten out.
· Going, you will pass by Grove Street, Pleasant Street, a gas station, and then Elefa Street. You should be in the right lane.
· The road will curve slightly to the left, and there will be a row of trees on your right. Next - watch for Lincoln Street and turn right --- It will be a hairpin turn. You are almost there!
· Very soon, on your right, you will see a yellow fire hydrant with a gravel spot behind it. It’s time to park.
· Once parked, you will be able to see the “The Crooked Bridge” off in the distance, to the left of the road. Railroad tracks are also on you left, and they continue on under the “The Crooked Bridge”.
· Straight ahead, in the field on your right, are two palm trees. Walk toward the first one and you will see remnants of miniature wild rosebushes around the tree trunk and on the ground around it. These might be descendants of the original roses that gave Roseville its name - ?
· Continue toward the second palm tree, but head more toward the trees next to the road that you came in on.
· In front of the trees there is a tiny ravine for water run-off. Look for a hollowed out tree on the other side of the ravine. Head for that tree.
· The Letterbox Hybrid cache is inside the tree, hidden under natural camouflage and in a plastic bag. Bring your stamp and exchange stamp images. I hope you enjoyed your tour of this part of Old Roseville.
· OPTION FOR RETURN: (You can take the street you are parked on -- Lincoln Street -- back into Old Historic Roseville. On your way, you will pass the Carnegie Museum and the entrance to The Crooked Bridge.)
