In the 1980's, when there were two 90 degree turns in the Appleton Side Road, cars often missed the turn and ended up in this field. I used to have fun on Sunday mornings towing people back onto the road. The farmer, however, got tired of repairing the fence so he put in six very heavy-duty posts to stop the cars. In the 1990's the bend in the road got smoothed out and the posts gradually disappeared. This is last one that is left.
