Memorial Day of 2015 brought record floods to Austin and the surrounding area. There was significant damage in and around Shoal and Waller creeks as well as flooding of the Trinity, Brazos, Colorado and Blanco rivers that led to millions of dollars of damage and loss of life. In the course of one week Lake Travis rose by a staggering 22 feet!
The phrase "Turn around, don't drown" has become a persistent battle cry when flash floods hit our area. Not only do you not fully know the power of water, but you never know what damage it may have done to a submerged roadway. Be safe out there people!!!
