The beautiful village of Marmora got its name from the Latin word for "marble" because of an"immense rock of the most delicate white marble" that used to stand in the southeast corner area of Crowe Lake.
The village has a rich history of mining & bills itself as "Upper Canada's First Mining Town." During the 19th Century it played a leading role in the production of iron with some copper, silver, lead & gold being produced.
This Wherigo is a short walking tour of the beautiful & historic Memorial Park, Marmora, Ontario.
For the most part, you will follow a paved trail around the park, along the Crowe River & up to the Marmora Dam. You will pass many plaques depicting historical & significant events where you will have to answer a question before proceeding to the next stage. The questions are of the multiple choice variety so shouldn't present any difficulty.
The walk itself will take less than an hour but we suggest 1 to 2 hours to fully appreciate the historical nature of the area.
