Quokka Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Obilon: Unfortunately, this has only been visited 8 times in 2 years. Also unfortunately, Florida weather does a serious amount of damage to almost anything left outside for any length of time, especially if A.) it's not COMPLETELY water-tight, B.) it has any tendency to rust. When Jules found it today, it was not quite where I had left it, had water inside, and the main "TOTT" for logging the cache was rusted and broken. I could replace all of the parts needed, but this hasn't drawn enough visitors to warrant that.
Also, someone did a pretty good number on the location when they apparently drove off the road, through the signs and fence, and, I'm sure, doing a LOT of damage to their vehicle based on the parts we found lying around.

Geocache Description:

PLEASE READ THE FULL DESCRIPTION FOR IMPORTANT DETAILS IN FINDING THIS CACHE!

Another in the animal series of both common and lesser known creatures of this amazing world.

The Quokka is a small marsupial that is native in parts of the south-west of Australia and on two islands off the south-west coast. The Quokka is one of the smallest Wallaby species in the world, and most distinctively differs from other Wallabies with their short and barely-furred tail and small hind legs.  The Quokka is a small species of Wallaby that has a rounded and compact body. Their hind legs and tail are much shorter in comparison to those of many Wallaby species, but allow the Quokka to hop through the thick vegetation and tall grasses with immense speed.  The most numerous populations of Quokka are found on Rottnest Island and on neighbouring Bald Island, with a few isolated groups also inhabiting the bushland that surrounds the city of Perth on the mainland. In these island environments, Quokka are most commonly found in thick forest, open woodland and areas of scrub that are close to fresh water. Their preferred habitats are always close to water, and the Quokka can also be found along the edges of swamps.

Finding the log will involve a little field puzzle work. It is within 25' of the container. There are a couple TOTT provided in the container which you find at this location that will be useful in locating and signing the log. Please replace everything as you found it, and, OF UTMOST IMPORTANCE, please make sure everything is COMPLETELY CLOSED AND SEALED to help protect against the weather! It may help to have someone with you, especially if the are limber and brave. SPECIAL CARE WILL BE NEEDED AS MANY PEOPLE PASS BY THIS LOCATION! You may be able to use your vehicle to partially shield your activities, but PLEASE do not compromise the location of the log!
