Cyberinkblot: I am unfortunately no longer based in the UAE and with the present COVID 19 Pandemic still raging, I cannot see myself getting back soon to check on my caches - so in the best interest of all and to open up the area for others to place caches I am Archiving this one........

Geocache Description:

Nestled in amongst the Turf farms of Ras Al Khaimah is this gem - looking for a place in the turf growing farms for a cache we stumbled across this particular spot. Perfect for a cache. Usual caution to be taken whilst searching for and retrieving the cache, remembering that small creatures may also make hiding places their home! Shining a torch at night or prodding with a stick can be useful at times!

Incidentally it seems RAK grows a lot of turf!! Suppliers of Golf courses, playing fields and your average more affluent household......

Please take your time and drive around some of these roads and the many growing vast amounts of grass for the few....

Interestingly for anyone needing bedtime reading the below is fairly interesting....

What kind of grasses are suitable for the UAE?

The following warm weather grasses are suitable for the UAE:

Bermuda Grass
Has fine leaves and creeping lateral growth habit. It is deep green in colour, dense and tight in appearance and feels soft underfoot. Bermuda grass can grow in partial shade but will not do well in fully shaded areas. It should be irrigated with potable municipal water or well water with low level of salinity.

Durban — Paspalum vaginatum
The leaves are more coarse and harder than Bermuda grass. It also has a creeping lateral growth habit, but takes longer to tighten and become dense when not planted from turf. The colour is lighter than Bermuda grass. It grows well in full sun,and has a higher shade tolerance than Bermuda grass. It can tolerate quite high levels of salinity in the irrigation water.

SeaIsle — Paspalum vaginatum
This grass evolved on the sand dunes of South Africa. It has a combination of the good properties of Bermuda grass and Durban variety. The leaves are dark green and glistening and growth is more aggressive than Durban. It grows well in full sun or partial shade. It is drought tolerant and copes with infrequent irrigation by developing deep roots; but can also tolerate water logging.

Its best attribute is that it can be watered with potable, recycled or salt water, though certain management practices have to be put in place before using salt water regularly for irrigation. This turf grass is specially bred for desert areas.

Forgive me if I have made any errors in the above - I am not super grass exposed.....
