Geocache Description:

The cache is NOT at the advertised coordinates.

Archeology is traditionally associated with North Africa, the Middle East or South America.

Noted West Australian archeologist George Cash is exploring the south-west of WA in his search for previously undiscovered limestone caves with a fascination for their contents.

You might be able to help him.

George Cash, the noted West Australian archaeologist was busying himself near the base of an old Tuart tree somewhere east of Busselton. This particular tree caught his attention as it had grown through a scattering of large but disconnected limestone boulders.

The item of his particular interest was not the stones themselves but the odd marks evident on their surface. Some seemed to be a series of dots. Others the "groups of five". Others were the extended hand with various fingers folded. Most interesting were the marks that were almost identical with the ancient Phoenecian cargo marks which provided the base for our numbering system. Marks which counted angles.

The largest of these scattered boulders received his closest attention. Not only was it about the size of a small car but it displayed all four types of marks. Roughly engraved marks, not the remnants of cave paintings.

To enable closer examination he backed his FWD to the massif and using a chain tried to shift it away from it's depression.

To his amazement the move exposed a hole in the base of the depression which by torchlight revealed itself to be 4-5 metres deep.

Excitedly he attached his rope ladder to his vehicle, tossed the loose end into the hole and descended into the cool dark cavern.

By torchlight he could discern more of the dot, stroke and finger symbols. It was clear that the original inhabitants were fascinated by number systems. The most exciting find however was a series of rocks over a crude alcove. The rocks bore deep and significant carvings.

George pondered that the inscriptions may be a clue to the location of the cave or possibly a code as to the whereabouts of the treasure that the alcove once held.

But rather than some new mathematical system, it seemed, at least to some degree, that the inhabitants had gone back to basics.

Can you help George solve the puzzle?
