Deer Park formed part of the land of the Fitzwilliam estate. The 5th Viscount Fitzwilliam built Mount Merrion House in 1711. This house may still be seen on the opposite side of North Avenue in the grounds of the Church of St Therese. It is currently in use as a community centre.
Deer Park was the land to the rear of Mount Merrion House and was landscaped by the 5th Viscount Fitzwilliam.
Deer Park is now a public park. It was created in 1971 from a collection of open public spaces and the acquisition of some private land. To the North on a clear day it provides good views of the Dublin City and bay. To the south are views of part of the Dublin mountains, in particular the Three Rock mountain.
It contains woodland, playing fields, a tennis club and children’s playground.

The area:
Parking easily available on street at all of the many entrances to the park. The park is not locked at night. There is a small car park at Redesdale Road entrance. However if there’s a match on it can be quite busy.
No public transport passing directly by the park but there are several options just a short walk away. Routes which travel along the N11 include the frequent 145 and 46A. The nearest stop coming from the city centre is Bus Stop No. 485, Mount Merrion Avenue. From there cross the road at the pedestrian lights and follow the pedestrian path up Sycamore Avenue. This route has the advantage of passing close by two other caches, GC11F48 D is for Deer and Church Micro Church of St Therese GC 5GR9C
Cache: This cache when you find it is a small tribute to Dermot Morgan who was born in Mount Merrion. It’s a tab lock box.
I’m calling it The Field in memory of the first episode of Father Ted. Ted is talking about the landscape of Craggy Island and directing a reporter to The Field which, as Ted explains, isn't actually a field, but merely a place which has fewer rocks than anywhere else on the island.
Perversely the cache is in an area of the park which has more rocks than the playing fields beside it.
Please ensure that you hide this cache properly when finished. I've found it visible a few times. There are some some small rocks there to cover it. Thank you.
