Geocache Description:

We’ve all probably been slackers at one thing or another.  You could call this a tribute cache, of sorts, to a cacher who renewed our interest in this placement by “claiming” over 200 local finds in a 10 day period, but whose name doesn’t appear in the physical logs.  No need for the FTF crowd to wait for them to claim the honor.

"When you go to hide a geocache, think of the reason you are bringing people to that spot. If the only reason is for the geocache, then find a better spot." – briansnat.

This cache involves a scenic kayak paddle, from the suggested approach, plus a physical/mental challenge for the final grab.

We occasionally paddle to this point on Wilmore Reservoir and have wanted to place a cache here for some time, but the recent events set the theme. However, like the other 10-20 interesting locations where we’ve thought to place caches, we’ve been slacking on getting it placed, written and submitted. But there’s little incentive to put in that effort when there is little emphasis in highlighting interesting caches.

Coordinates may be off from our normal accuracy as the GPS was bouncing around a bit during cache placement. The cache is securely mounted in place in an obvious location and clearly visible from a distance of 20’ or more, so you won’t have to look hard to find it. Don’t be the kind of slacker though, who would allow someone else to do the work of retrieving the log while shirking the responsibility to pull their own weight. If you can’t touch the cache container where it is mounted, then you’ve missed one point of this cache. Get to it or don’t; we’ll still think of you as a slacker.

Work gloves will be helpful and a hindrance in retrieving this cache. Slip resistant waterproof shoes are also recommended. Don’t drop the lid, log sheet, pencil, or yourself into the raging river nearby. Don’t overtighten the lid on replacement.

A kayaking approach, of just under a mile each way, from N40°25'53"/ W78°41'02" is the most interesting, but a shorter, less noteworthy semi-solid land-based approach from N40°26'25"/ W78°41'20" is also available. Neither parking area is recommended for low clearance vehicles. Hiking from the kayak parking could be memorable too, but probably not in a positive way. The Terrain Rating is required to be listed as a “5” due to the need for a boat under the recommended approach, but the land-based approach won’t make it much easier. Tom and Allie were the slackers who put the cache in position.

You can extend your paddle to about 6 miles round trip, even longer if you follow the shoreline like we also sometimes do when we're feeling really ambitious, by launching from the damsite access point at the south end of the lake. You can then make SOME of the other caches at the lake into kayak caches too. Coordinates for this launch are N40°24'39"/ W78°41'17".

You are not required to go after this or any other cache, so do so at your own risk. Cache was placed with the help of our 11-year-old granddaughter. She paddled the whole way and confirmed accessibility (in flip-flops), but it was a stretch. This isn’t recommended as a solo hunt.

Logs with spoiler photos/descriptions will be deleted.

Since cache visitation seems to drop off sharply following the initial FTF rush anymore, we have opted to create a different FTF prize system. The FTF prize is not in the container, but will be awarded to a preselected FND/RD/TH/TK/TS/TB visitor.
