Peaceful Grove was the extended picnic area of the church it is located next to. The church still meets weekly and is active although not many attend. The church started 130 years ago with stained glass and a bell tower that is rung every Sunday before church. It used to be the call to all local land owners, farmers, and ranchers. The church had a parsonage, picnic area, volleyball court, and baseball field all directly around the church and was its own community center in many ways. When railroad tracks were built 5 miles to the south, the majority of people began doing all their congregating by the railroad tracks and established the city of Hudson, KS which now itself has begun to die away as the major highways were built no closer (ironically) than 5 miles west of the city. Much of the picnic area still has the old landmarks. Beware of typical tall grass and wooded area creatures (flies, ticks, mosquitoes, snakes, etc). This should be a quick park and grab. Bring your own pen/pencil. The container is a small waterproof match container. Not much room for tradeables if any. Marbles are about as big as it can get. Take the time to look around at the cemetery while here, and drive down and check out the city of Hudson and their area famous flour mill and old jailhouse.
