Silver and Lead were discovered at Thackaringa in 1876 by Julius Charles Nickel, John Stokie and Patrick Green. The first ore was raised from the Pioneer Mine which was approximately 1000 feet or 305 metres South of a monument built adjacent the Barrier Highway.
An easy standard cache at the Thackaringa Rest Area. Beware of muggles as this is a relatively highly trafficed area with a lot of tourists using it as an overnight stop. Playing the tired traveller doing the "Stop, Revive, Survive" trick may be the key to an easy find.
The cache itself is a 1 litre Sistema container with a Log Book and Biro.
