Lake Yankton was formed after Gavin’s Point Dam was built. Lake Yankton is actually the old Missouri River channel. The historic 2011 Missouri River flooding affected Lake Yankton as many unwanted fish species made their way into the lake. As a result in 2014 the lake’s fish were killed off & new fish stocked back in.
This is the third geocache that I’ve placed on ground owned by the Army Corp of Engineers. The cache is located below Gavins Point Dam. I have permission from the Army Corp of Engineers to place this cache, Permit #5. Getting there is the difficult part of retrieving this cache. You will need to kayak, canoe, or boat (only electric motors allowed on Lake Yankton) over to this peninsula/island. When the water levels are low you may be able to walk in from the north side, but it will be marshy so expect to get wet and muddy.
Go to original gz which is a tree stump more than 2 feet in diameter from there step off 45 feet approximately 33 degrees NE there you have to locate a camouflaged bison. This is now winter friendly so replace as found.
