The first lighthouse at the Isles of Shoals was erected on this island in 1820. It was made of stone and shingles. It was rebuilt in 1859. It is New Hampshire’s only off shore lighthouse. The Coast Guard maintains the navigation equipment in the lighthouse which is not open to the public. The best way to view this lighthouse is on one of the Isles of Shoals cruises.
