Holmesville was established on December 11, 1816 in honor of Major Andrew Hunter Holmes of Pennsylvania. Holmesville was the county seat of Pike County from 1816 to 1872.  The Post Office sat where this pond is located.  When the railroad decided to go though Magnolia, the county seat was moved there and all the businesses moved also.
