Geocache Description:

This traditional cache is part of a series of caches hidden on Shabomeka lake, where my grandparents built our family cottage. Parking is available next to the cache (on the trail that leads to little buck lake (also known as little Shabomeka lake). The container is a medium sized plastic container with a lid, covered in camouflage duck tape. ***Please close the lid tightly before re-hiding the cache exactly as found so it is not seen from the road. It is important to acknowledge that this geocache is hidden on unceded Algonquin, Omàmìwininìwag territory that is part of the Treaty Negotiations with the Federal and Provincial Crowns. I would also like to recognize the contributions of Métis, Inuit, and other Indigenous peoples have made in this area and in Canada as a whole. “Mazinaw” (the name of the connecting lake) is an Algonquin word meaning “picture” or “writing”. This refers to the 260 pictographs painted in red ochre along the cliff-face in Bon Echo Provincial Park. I recognize and deeply appreciate the historic connection of the Algonquin people to Mazinaw Lake, Shabomeka lake and the surrounding area, and am incredibly thankful for the ability to be present on this land.
