Peren Park (Manawatu) Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

pgcnz: Archived. The area around the hide has changed considerably since this was first placed. I think it would be good to have something here I might place one at some point. In the meantime if anyone has an idea, you're more than welcome to jump in.

Geocache Description:

The cache is a camo’d 200ml Sistema.  It contains a log book, pencil and swaps.  There is room for small trackables.

Peren Park is named after Sir Geoffrey Peren, a distinguished New Zealand soldier, agricultural scientist and university professor.  He was foundation principal of Massey Agricultural College (now Massey University) in 1927.

The park has a children’s play area and can be a great spot for flying kites during the winter.  It’s quite high above the city often with a stiff breeze and has wide open space to run around in.  It is a bit exposed though and in 2013 around 70 Summerhill locals planted more than 600 native plants during a community planting day in August.   The project was also assisted by a number of local businesses who helped sponsor the planting event and contributed towards new seating.

The path from here connects to several other caches located in the gullies and regenerated bush nearby.  Please be careful under foot, young newly-planted trees are growing.  Also the bank can drop away quite suddenly and ground level isn't obvious due to the long grass on the hillside.

Congratulations Edvern, F2F!
