Geocache Description:

Welcome to the Berks Explorers Seeking Tupperware (aka BEST) Geo-Art series. This series was created to teach Geocacher's about Berks County, and some of it's interesting facts, places, people and heritage. Once all 55 caches are found, your Geo-Art reward will be completed. Although all caches are hidden near the Lake Ontelaunee Reservoir, it is not at these posted coordinates - no swimming is required to obtain any cache in this series *smile*

BEST Geo-Art: T06/50

Robeson Township, Berks County, PA

The Daniel Boone Homestead near Birdsboro is the birthplace of American frontiersman Daniel Boone. In 1731, Squire Boone, Daniel Boone's father, built a log cabin in the Oley Valley near present Reading. Daniel Boone was born in the 1 1⁄2-story log house, the sixth of eleven children.

Squire Boone expanded his property in 1741 when he purchased 25 acres of land for use as a pasture for his dairy cattle. The responsibility for tending the cattle was given to Daniel. During the summer months he stayed in a rustic cabin at the edge of the pasture. From there he was able to protect the cattle from predators such as the black bear, bobcat, and mountain lions. This is likely where he learned and honed his fabled hunting skills.

Eventually ownership of the Daniel Boone Homestead was transferred to William Maugridge, a relative of the Boones from Philadelphia. Squire moved his family to North Carolina and from there Daniel headed west to explore the frontier. He blazed his famous Wilderness Road through the mountains in North Carolina and Tennessee into Kentucky and there he founded the village of Boonesborough, Kentucky, one of the first American settlements west of the Appalachians. Before the end of the 18th century, more than 200,000 European people migrated to Kentucky/Virginia by following the route marked by Boone.

In what year was the Boone Homestead transferred to William Maugridge?

A. 1747 (N 40° 27.221 W 075° 54.465)
B. 1748 (N 40° 27.213 W 075° 54.476)
C. 1749 (N 40° 27.221 W 075° 54.487)
D. 1750 (N 40° 27.221 W 075° 54.476)
E. 1751 (N 40° 27.229 W 075° 54.476)

Note: The Daniel Boone Homestead is located at N 40 17.883, W 75 47.867. A historical marker was placed on April 1, 1947 at N 40 16.763, W 75 48.110 commemorating Daniel Boone. Two other historical markers can be found at N 40 16.060, W 75 45.664 and N 40 16.054, W 75 45.664.

Note:  This cache has the hunting attribute selected. Hunters wear orange, and when the time is right, and so should you. During hunting season, it is best to do this series on a Sunday. The majority of the cache containers are hidden within 10 - 20 feet from the trail. Since these caches are hidden in the woods, you will encounter things like wildlife, poison ivy, bugs, ticks, etc. That is just part of geocaching in the great outdoors. Good Luck.

Please note that GC42X2Q - Cache Quest #4 Minecache was archived to make room for this BEST Geo-Art geocache.  Thanks Rentell.
