About 2 blocks west of this location was the home of Binzel Brewery, (apartment buildings are now located in the area).
Founded in 1864 by Peter Binzel Sr., the brewery was operated by the Binzel family until 1922, when former Oconomowoc Mayor Andrew Fisher operated it, making near beer. The brewery then changed hands two more times before Peter Binzel Jr. took it over in 1936 to make Cooney, Esquire and Extra beer. After Peter Jr. died in 1939, Clarence W. Binzel operated it until 1942 when it closed for good. The brewery averaged about 5,000 barrels per year. The plant was equipped with a bottling line, but no canning was done at the brewery. The building was razed in 1965.
