Geocache Description:

Welcome to the Berks Explorers Seeking Tupperware (aka BEST) Geo-Art series. This series was created to teach Geocacher's about Berks County, and some of it's interesting facts, places, people and heritage. Once all 55 caches are found, your Geo-Art reward will be completed. Although all caches are hidden near the Lake Ontelaunee Reservoir, it is not at these posted coordinates - no swimming is required to obtain any cache in this series *smile*

BEST Geo-Art: E14/31

Moselem Springs, Richmond Township, Berks County, PA

The Inn at Moselem Springs has a rich and defined history. Rarely does a property reflect the hallmarks of our nation’s history through time and circumstance. The Inn was purchased from the Commonwealth in 1748. The deed changed hands four times before the hotel was erected in 1852. A reputation for fine food and hospitality was established at the very outset, and it was not unusual to see a dozen or more Conestoga wagons parked at the Inn at dusk.

During the days of frontier growth and expansion the Delaware River became an important trade route for Philadelphia merchants shipping their goods from the Easton riverport west to the settlements. Route 222, then the Easton to Philadelphia Inland Road, was a busy artery connecting points of trade. The “Moselem Springs Hotel”, as it was then called, became a favorite stop over. The name “Mo-sel-lem” (Moselem) comes from the tongue of the Leni-Lenape Indians who inhabited the area, named because of the fresh water springs and the many of these nearby.

What does Moselem mean in Lini-Lenape?

A. Trout Brook (N 40° 28.406 W 075° 55.383)
B. Trout River (N 40° 28.418 W 075° 55.367)
C. Trout Stream (N 40° 28.412 W 075° 55.375)
D. Trout Pond (N 40° 28.412 W 075° 55.386)

Note:  This cache has the hunting attribute selected. Hunters wear orange, and when the time is right, and so should you. During hunting season, it is best to do this series on a Sunday. The majority of the cache containers are hidden within 10 - 20 feet from the trail. Since these caches are hidden in the woods, you will encounter things like wildlife, poison ivy, bugs, ticks, etc. That is just part of geocaching in the great outdoors. Good Luck.
