Geocache Description:

Welcome to the Berks Explorers Seeking Tupperware (aka BEST) Geo-Art series. This series was created to teach Geocacher's about Berks County, and some of it's interesting facts, places, people and heritage. Once all 55 caches are found, your Geo-Art reward will be completed. Although all caches are hidden near the Lake Ontelaunee Reservoir, it is not at these posted coordinates - no swimming is required to obtain any cache in this series *smile*

BEST Geo-Art: B10/10

Reading, Berks County, PA

In 1889, a wooden fire tower was constructed at this location to keep watch over the city's 5000 plus wooded acres and surrounding farmland. In an ironic twist of fate, this fire tower burnt down in 1923. It would be another fifteen years before this mountain area would be outfitted with another tower. Its replacement was built in 1939 as a fire observation tower and tourist attraction. The imposing stone and reinforced concrete tower is 120 feet tall, overlooking the City of Reading and its surroundings.

This structure is now known as the...

A. Pagoda (N 40° 28.178 W 075° 55.516)
B. Neversink Mountain Fire Tower (N 40° 28.190 W 075° 55.500)
C. William Penn Memorial Fire Tower (N 40° 28.184 W 075° 55.508)
D. Mount Penn Fire Tower (N 40° 28.184 W 075° 55.497)

Note: The fire tower is located at N 40° 20.820 W 075° 54.162

Note:  This cache has the hunting attribute selected. Hunters wear orange, and when the time is right, and so should you. During hunting season, it is best to do this series on a Sunday. The majority of the cache containers are hidden within 10 - 20 feet from the trail. Since these caches are hidden in the woods, you will encounter things like wildlife, poison ivy, bugs, ticks, etc. That is just part of geocaching in the great outdoors. Good Luck.
