OAHT 1505: Interurban Depot Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Mufflers2112: I'm sad to see that this cache has been taken out. I'm not sure who took it, if it was the owner of the property or it disappeared. I drove by to check it out and it was completely gone.

Thank you to everyone that visited this unique cache. It was a fun and different type of cache that we had for one of our events.

Geocache Description:

OAHT 1505: Interurban Depot

This Geocache WAS part of the 2015 Oconomowoc Area Historical Tour:

Interurban Depot

The Milwaukee Electric Railway and Light Co. had various trolley lines operating from Milwaukee, including one that ran between Milwaukee and Watertown.  The Interurban line reached Oconomowoc with the first regular service beginning on June 3, 1907.

A modern station was built in 1908 on the former Pfeiffer property at the corner of Second and Franklin streets.  The building was equipped with waiting rooms, refreshment counter and will have living quarters for those in charge.

At the waiting station, when you walked through the front door, the ticket counter was on the right side and on the left side a door to another room where benches were placed. Elva Braudt remembers the distinct smell of the combination of sweet candy and the ink used at the ticket counter.  Many people from the area used the Interurban to go to work, school or for pleasure.

Today the original depot still stands and is owned by a private business.  Since this is a private business, please respect the property around and stay close to the Geocache location.

About the Geocache:

This is a very unique cache!  We borrowed this concept from fellow Geocacher lobsters9494.   You can and should drive right to the cache. Please attempt this cache dawn to dusk. Kids will love this cache, but ONLY with adult supervision.

This cache, DOES NOT need to be taken apart, pried open or otherwise disassembled. No tools are required, but you will need a "special device". Below I have given you some hints as to what you need to "bring this cache to life".

The cache is completely out in the open and can be spotted easily. But.... to sign the log you will have to find the cache secret. Listed below are some helpful statements that should help you come prepared to find this cache.

Hints:

1. You will have to be a well-prepared motorist to claim this cache.

2. If you hiked or rode a motorcycle to this cache, you will not be able to find the secret to the cache.

3. If you have figured out the secret, but do not have the special equipment, then the stores close by will sell you a pair. (You need to have them in your car anyway). :)

IMPORTANT: When signing the log, please disconnect your device. When you remove your device the cache will stop. When you reverse the process AT THE CACHE the direction will reverse. Lower the cache properly before leaving.(When you hear clicking STOP) You can position the cache to within reach by raising or lowering the cache with your special device. PLEASE do not put ANYTHING into or attempt to reach into the top of the cache. Be Gentle... so other cachers may enjoy this unique cache.

(Thank you lobsters9494 for concept and instructions for this special cache)
