The cemetery has been in use since 1820 and was privately owned, operated, and maintained by three families who resided in the town of Hull. But in 1944, the Reverend and congregation of the Aylmer's Presbyterian Church teamed up with the congregations of the Anglican and United churches to to form a company comprised of representatives of all three denominations in order to maintain and improve the property. These many years later, their foresight is realized when you see and appreciate these beautiful grounds. On your way out, be sure to stop and read the plaque on a rock on the left. It gives more detailed information about the history of this cemetery.
As I wandered around the cemetery, I discovered a memorial (in a columbarium) to someone who, that if you've done any amount of research on gravemarkers in Eastern Ontario and West Québec, would recognize. His name is Scott D. Naylor(see additional WP) and it was he who started, almost single handedly, photographing and indexing the names on headstones in many cemeteries in this area., including the very one he rests in!
The container is camoed PB jar with enough room for a few small trinkets and small trackables. It contains a logbook, manifesto, a CITO vial, a trackable, and a toonie for the FTF! Be sure to BYOP!
