Geocache Description:

Beautiful views of SUNY Oneonta

Here is part two of my SUNY Oneonta Series.

What visit to campus would be complete without taking a look at the picturesque view from the top of campus into the academic quad. During the summer we can gaze upon a wonderful green space nestled between halls of learning. During the rest of the year it is an active space for student life. The busy nature of the student experience can be seen in the comings and goings of the students below.

Many things stand out from this viewpoint. To your left is Fitzelle Hall. The beautiful building has just been re-opened after renovation with new classroom space and offices for academics in Education, Mathematics, Philosophy and other departments. To the right is the Fine Arts building. On a clear day you can see some of the art studios from this point with artists honing their craft. Right below you is the the Pillars of campus. Every student who enters these hallowed halls becomes a Red Dragon by entering between the pillars their first semester. In the distance, we can see a memorial to the attacks on 9/11. A memorial service takes place here every year to remember the alumni, students and staff who were lost or impacted that day.

This may feel like a park and grab, but take some time to drink in the view before heading on your way!
