Another cache in the Cockerawombeeba Nature Reserve which will not only take you to the beautiful Wilson river but to find the cache. You`ll have to cross the Wilson river SO PLEASE DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS CACHE DURING A STORM OR FLOOD AS THE RIVER CAN RISE QUITE A BIT HIGHER THAN ITS USUAL HALF METRE OR SO AND CAN BE FAST FLOWING.
I suggest you park at the Bluff Picnic Area at S31 14.571 E 152 31.594 and from here make your way along the river`s edge to the suggested river crossing of S 31 14.415 E 152 31.583 but the river crossing co-ords are only a guide as there`s plenty of other suitable spots to cross.
Along the way you`ll see plenty of lovely water holes ideal for a dip in summer but PLEASE BE CAREFUL AS THE ROCKS ARE VERY SLIPPERY, you are well advised to wear some old but stout shoes for the river crossing not just because of the slippery rocks but also because a fish known as a Bull Rout is found in the river & can inflict a painful sting if you tread on it so be warned that terrain rating is 4 for a reason as once across the river you`re in for a steepish scramble to the cache (nothing too hard but stout shoes are a must as it can be slippery).
The cache itself is well above any flood line & should be easy to spot (so no hint provided) but inside the cache you`ll find 3 containers, 1 for trackables/geocoins, 1 for swaps & the third container well inside there are nearly a dozen mint tin type containers BUT ONLY ONE OF THESE CONTAINS THE LOG BOOK, you have to find which one! You may wish to add more to help the next person trying to find the correct one.
From the parking area to the cache & back is about 800 metres but please allow enough time to enjoy the beautiful scenery & cool off in one of the many waterholes which you`ll come across.
The use of spoilers:
The introduction of Social media to showcase caching activities is now starting to expand and I can see that over a period of time, more people will get involved and showcase their activities through this medium.
I believe that it takes away the experience that Geocaching offers. Tat for every person undertaking a cache hunt, it should be like they are the first to discover it. It is as much about the journey of finding the cache (working out the puzzle, thinking about where a cache might be hidden etc) as it is about finding the cache and racking up the numbers. Geocaching can take you to some beautiful and completely unexpected places. If someone has seen it on a Social media site, then the experience will no longer be a new experience.
It has been the reason why many people who have hidden caches check their logs regularly and remove spoiler images or logs. Geocaching is a controlled environment where the ownership and presentation is in the hands of the cache owner. The use of social media takes the ownership away from the cache owner and places it in the control of those working to discover the cache and present a story on an external medium. Once it has been presented on Social media, there is nothing a cache owner can do to remove it.
Geocaching is a game that everyone plays in their own way. The way Geocaching is set up means that every time a person finds a cache it is a new experience for them because they find it themselves and comment on their experience as a new finder, hopefully without a spoiler. After viewing a few spoiler reports on Social media and having to take action to remove spoiler activity presented in logs through Geocaching lately, I am requesting that this cache is not used for a Social media presentation. Please respect my request.
