"The Pacific Jamboree, hosted by BC-Yukon Councils, is held every four years and participation is open to all youth of Scout age who are registered members of Scouts Canada, L’Association des Scouts du Canada and Scout Units from National Scout Organizations who are members of the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM). Offer of Service (OOS) is open to Venturer Scouts, Rover Scouts and Volunteers including former members who wish to participate. We look forward to seeing you forJuly 11-18, 2015!" This cache has been placed as a legacy for the event. Geocaching was one of the stations at the event and we are happy to introduce youth to a sport which encourages everyone to be their own search engine.
There were approximately 3000 scouts, venturers, rovers and scouters attending the Jamboree this year. Lemon-T organized a station which had approximately 800 people attend with GeoHackers helping out. It was great to meet so many people new to the sport and talk about geocaching with those who have tried it before.
A geocache was released as a legacy cache but was soon archived due to a misinterpretation of the rules involving disruption of the soil. This cache is a replacement cache which has been hidden above ground. The cache is located near Camp Barnard along a power line right of way. There is no need to enter the camp itself and there is parking at the corner of Young Lake Road and Butler Main. Parking can also be found very close to the cache but do not block the driveway.
The cache has two containers. One contains the log book and some small items for trading. All valid finds must locate and sign the log book. The second container is for those interested in trading badges. When trading badges all trades are to be made using a one for one rule. If you take a badge you must leave a badge. The cache will remain after the 2015 Pacific Jamboree until the Pacific Jamboree returns in 2019. Local and visiting scout groups can come and do some badge trading anytime they wish and are encouraged to leave their group badge in the cache.
Cache was originally placed near the entrance of Camp Barnard but was moved due to proximity issues. It is now placed in some brambles but I was able to place it wearing shorts. Be careful of the blackberries.
A full set of geocaching stickers has been placed in the cache for the FTF and some other stickers for anyone who would like one.
Finally, please place both containers back as you have found them. Have fun and enjoy.
