Geocache Description:

Fish restaurant and two saints church

This cache is hidden in a region, where only adventurists and the most persistent geocachers will come. But, once you visit this corner of the Earth, you’ll remember it for a long time. The region of Porechie (meaning “along a river”, here River Treska), positioned in the heart of Macedonia, in the municipality Makedonski Brod, is reach in water, forests, medical and other herbs, game and beautiful landscapes, churches, caves, legends about vampires, and beautiful people. Discover it, step by step…

The Porechie region in the term of relief is a valley of the Treska (Fever, Horečka) River. From all sides the area is surrounded by mountains. This place is considered to be the cleanest eco region in Macedonia. This area hosts more than 100 churches, 2 monasteries, many caves, of which 15 are new discovered. In the northern part lies the biggest hydro accumulation Kozyak, 32 km long and 130 m deep, rich in fish species.

Porechie region

This cache lies south of the city of Makedonski Brod which is the capitol of the municipality. On the road you will pass many villages of the Porechie region, as Suvodol, Devic, Dragov Dol, Dolni Manastirets, Gorni Manastirets, Modriste etc. Every village has its own story to tell, something interesting to show. Just for example: allegedly in the village Devic (Devich) live the most beautiful men! They were said to be so beautiful, so they sit all the day in tavern, while their wives (who scarcely fought to get a husband from Devic, imagine!) work in the fields. Near the village Devic there is a “Devic tower”, a medieval castle where long time ago lived cruel virgin Deva, one of the King Marko’s sisters. The other sister, Peša (Pesha) lived in a castle built in a cave called Peshna, near Devic. Near the village Gorni Manastirets there is a church “Little Holy Mother”, where in 1917, after the October Revolution in Russia, 20 officers came. They built a part of the monastery in Russian style. Village Modrishte is famous with its old church built on Roman basilica foundations and Roman period iron mines, and so on…

Treska River

Driving along north Treska River valley the road splits at this cache location. Here waits the cache for you, at a small two Saints church yard. You can rest here, in a fish restaurant, and maybe you’ll decide to taste an excellent grilled trout? My recommendation is – do so, it is yummy. And my second recommendation is, if you have enough time, drive east toward the picturesque village Belica (Belitsa). If you continue west, the asphalt road, after few kilometers, ends and dusty macadam road continue toward the Kozyak Lake. The surrounding, however, is not pleasant as it was along Treska River.

The two saints church

How to get there: You can drive from Kichevo toward Makedonski Brod (27 km), or from Prilep toward Makedonski Brod (40 km). Drive on R1106 from Suvodol north, along Treska River, 25 km.

The cache is ....??? (I forgot what the container looks like FTF is asked to inform the forgetful owner.
