Zarečki krov (Zarečje's roof) is beautiful waterfall on Pazinčica river near Pazin town in karst landscape. This is one of the most attractive waterfalls in Istria.
The waterfall is falling down from a 10 meter high cliff into a small lake, which is the largest one on the Pazinčica river.
The most interesting feature at this place is for sure a half-cave below Zarečki krov waterfall.

Here, we will study how to form a cave like this one.

Zarečki krov (Zarečje je krov) je prekrasan slap na rijeci Pazinčice blizu Pazin grad u krškom krajoliku. To je jedan od najatraktivnijih slapova u Istri.
Slap je pada s 10 metara visoke litice u malom jezeru, što je najveća na Pazinčice.Dubina jezera je oko 10 metara.
Najzanimljivija značajka u ovom mjestu je sigurno pola špilje ispod Zarečki krov vodopada.

Ovdje ćemo učiti kako se formira špilji poput ove.





River erosion | Erozije rijeka

In earth science, erosion is the action of surface processes (such as water flow or wind) that remove soil, rock, or dissolved material from one location on the Earth's crust, then transport it away to another location.

There are four main forms of river erosion :
- Hydraulic action : It's the process whereby the pressure of the water upon the bank causes air to be trapped in any cracks in the river bed. This build up of air and pressure causes weaknesses to form in the river bank and the cracks to expand until sediment breaks away. Thus eroding the river bank.
- Attrition : It's where rocks being transported by the river collide with each other. The force of collision causes the sediment to break down into smaller particles and erode away at each other.
- Abrasion : It's where rocks that are carried along the river bed erode the bed surface as a result of the frictional energy created. The repetitive movement wears down the bed rock releasing sediment from the river bed and banks.
- Solution : It's a process involving extremely small particles of sediment. Small particles from the river banks and bed are picked up by the flowing water dissolved into it. Thus eroding the river as sediment is transferred from the banks and bed to the water.

U zemlji znanosti, erozija je djelovanje površinskih procesa (kao što su protok vode ili vjetra) koji uklanja tla, rock, ili otopljenog materijala s jednog mjesta na Zemljinoj kori, zatim ga transportirati daleko na drugo mjesto.

Postoje četiri glavna oblika erozije rijeke :

Formation of the Zarečki krov cave | Formiranje špilje Zarečki krov

The erosion of the Zarečki krov cave is the result of two main factors : hydraulic action and abrasion.

- Hydraulic action at Zarečki krov : Pazinčica river is formed from three small streams : Lipa, Rakov potok and Borutski potok.
This river is a watercourse of torrential caracter. Its flow rate can range from 0,3 m³/s to 166 m³/s during flood periods.
A stream's velocity increases as it nears the waterfall, increasing the amount of erosion taking place. The movement of water at the top of the waterfall erodes rocks to be very flat and smooth. Rushing water falls over the waterfall, eroding the plunge pool at the base. The crashing flow of the water creates powerful whirlpools that erode the soft rock behind the waterfall, creating a cave.
- Abrasion at Zarečki krov : When Pazinčica river is in flood, it drains many pebbles. These pebbles fall in the plunge pool and are caught in the whirls. They rub against the soft rock behind the waterfall and dig more the cave.
They also erode the base of the waterfall, creating a deep plunge pool. At Zarečki krov, the depth of the plungepool is about 10 meters !

Erozija špilje Zarečki krov je rezultat dvaju glavnih čimbenika: hidrauličkog akcije i struganja.

- Hidraulički akcije na Zarečki krov : Pazinčice nastaje iz tri manja potoka: Lipe, Rakov Potok i Borutski Potok.
Ova rijeka je vodotok od obilne caracter. Njegova brzina protoka može biti u rasponu od 0,3 m³/s do 166 m³/s tijekom razdoblja poplava.
Potok je brzina povećava jer približava slap, povećavajući količinu erozije odvija. Kretanje vode na vrhu vodopada nagriza stijene biti vrlo ravna i glatka. To voda pada preko slapa, narušavanja poniranje bazen u bazi. Pad sustava protok vode stvara snažne whirpoola da nagrizati mekani kamen iza slapa, stvarajući špilje.
- Abrazija na Zarečki krov : Kad rijeka Pazinčica u poplavi, izlučivanje mnogo šljunka. Ovi kamenčići padaju u poniranje bazen i uhvaćeni u vrtlozima. Oni trljati protiv meke stijene iza vodopada i kopaju više špilju.
