Phear Park used to be part of the grounds of Marpool Hall and was bequeathed to the towns people of Exmouth by its owners, the Phear family. The lower part of the Park was gifted in 1909 and became the site of a new bowling green and club. The remainder of the Park and Hall were bought by the local council in 1935, and the bowling green moved to its current position. Shortly after World War II the Hall was burnt down and left derelict. Eventually it was demolished in the 1950s to make way for the current bowling club pavilion. The old Exmouth to Budleigh Salterton railway skirts the the Park, and is today a popular National Cycling Route.
The headline co-ordinates for this cache are for the the huge felled Lucombe Oak - right in the centre of the Park - which was turned into a children's play area in 2012.
Parking is FREE and plentiful at STAGE 1, where there is also a question to answer. There are Public Conveniences adjacent, and a small cafe which serves refreshments during the day.
