Geocache Description:

Welcome to the Friendship Trail.  This area just around Stonewall Jackson Dam is home to 125 species of birds at various times of the year.  Take a look and listen closely for them as you enjoy the hike up to the cache.  Wood Thrush, Scarlet Tanager, Ovenbird, and Eastern Wood-Pewee are a few you are likely to encounter.   If you’re really lucky you might even catch a glimpse of the threatened Cerulean Warbler.

Stay on Friendship Trail to reach the cache.  I know the first climb is a bit steep but it’s worth it.  There will be lots of wildlife to view, birds to hear and wildflowers to admire along the way should it be the right season for it.  Enjoy the new interpretive signs as well.  You’re looking for a medium sized ammo can. This is a no hunting zone so it's good for year round caching.  Remember though, you must exit by 3:30PM if you are parked at the Trailhead or visitor center.  If you are planning to be there longer than that park in the one of the parking areas before the bridge.
