Tillamook Head Games (This cache and series final)
Start your hike at the posted coordinates which can
be reached by following Sunset Blvd from southwest Seaside. Visit sites #1
through #9 as you follow the trail. GPS reception is decreased here due to
heavy tree cover, so be sure to use the hints if you don't want to spend all day
searching! The hints have been designed to make the finds much easier.
Note: The hints are based on hiking from north (Seaside) to south. If you
happen to be hiking the opposite direction (from Ecola State Park), keep that in
mind when using the hints.
Expect some mud and be aware of dropoffs further
along the trail. Dogs are welcome, but are best kept leashed. The
hiking distance is about 2.8 miles one-way. Caches #1 through #9 are very
close to the trail and the final is a short distance off the trail. No
need to bushwhack!
The (easy!) puzzle: The logs for each of the
first nine caches contain clue words.
Make a note of the words from each of the nine cache logs. Put them
together, and they describe how to find the final cache, which is a short
distance past THG #9.
Enjoy the hike and the puzzle and stay safe!
Trail Report, March, 2018: The trail
is in GREAT condition! During recent winters, many trees have blown down
and a large earth slide took out an
extensive section of the trail. Now, these have all been dealt with.
You will see the results of the trail clearing in the many cut logs and trees
along the way. When you reach the earth slide, a new trail has
been pioneered going up and around. It is much easier than attempting to
cross the area of the slide.
From the final cache, a long series of caches will
lead you all the way to Indian Beach in Ecola State Park (should you have the
time and energy!). The first of these is
Growly.
