Severus Snape was a complex character, whose nature and motives were often hidden from the reader. As we see the story from Harry's perspective, we always see the worst of Snape (and I'm not pretending that he wasn't extremely unpleasant) and the small details that point to him as being on the same side as our hero are often easy to miss (for example, he appeared in the foe-glass with Dumbledore and McGonagall coming to Harry's aid in Goblet of Fire). Probably part of my affection is due to my conviction at the end of book six that he had been in love with Lily. I also felt sure that Dumbledore was not begging for his life when repeating "please" but rather asking Snape to perform the Avada Kedavra curse. I then felt very clever indeed when the publication of the final part proved me correct on both points! His being shrouded in darkness made him interesting, as did his potential to be saved. Even his death was the most poetic, looking into the eyes of the one he loved. Of course, J.K Rowling also blessed Snape with the same birthday as me, and it doesn't hurt that he was played by Alan Rickman!
More to the point, however, I was very disappointed on reading book one to find that there was no picture accompanying the riddle set by Snape to protect the Philosopher's Stone. Hermione simply picks the correct bottles and as a reader I couldn't work out the puzzle for myself. So, for any others like me, here is your chance to do so!

Having established what is in which bottle, label the bottles 1, 2, 3, etc. from left to right. Then calculate the co-ordinates N50 55.ABC W000 26.DEF, where:
A = Leftmost Nettle wine
B = Leftmost Poison + Go Back
C = Go onwards + Rightmost Nettle wine
D = Rightmost Nettle wine - Go onwards
E = Rightmost poison - Middle poison - Leftmost poison
F = Go Back
