Geocache Description:

The fairies are at it again, stealing young men off to fairyland. I had heard all about Thomas Rhymer but not this tale, unlike everyone else it seems. I was surprised how famous it was around the world.

There is a film starring Ava Gardiner, and a fair few other stars , which was filmed in and around Traquair. The ballad has been covered by Fairport Convention and Steeleye Span to name but a few. (Have to agree with Misty Morn this is the best version of the song ) There is even a Russian Cartoon and an a PC game. I discovered this spot, linked to the tale, online and ventured out to find it, expecting to discover somewhere new, turns out I pass it by regularly and had never noticed it before. The cache is a drive by, unless you are feeling very brave, and are prepared risk abduction, and walk through the woods from Bowhill. A bit of research or local knowledge will probably get you to the right spot but it will require the dark arts to reveal the precise location. BYOP
