Geocache Description:


Every year a conference is held for kids to teach other kids about the environment.

 The 2015 conference theme is catchments. 

The Sunshine Coast Home Educators have laid a ‘catchment cache trail’ to teach other kids about the catchment that starts at Cooloolabin Dam and goes all the way to the Maroochy River mouth and out to the ocean. This trail includes man made, natural, fresh water and saltwater catchments.

 To fully appreciate this catchment we recommend you spend the day starting at Catchment Trail 1 and following it all the way to the ocean at Catchment Trail 7. You need coordinate information from Catchment Trails 1-6 to find 7.

 It’s important to keep our waterways clean so be sure to take your rubbish away and pick up any that has been left behind.

 

This, being the final cache in the series, is at the mouth of the Maroochy River. Over the past 15 to 20 years the river mouth has been slowly moving and changing, through erosion, dredging and the natural movement of sand. Pincushion Island, which used to be accessible from Cotton Tree, is now only accessible from Mudjimba, the other side of the river mouth. Have fun running along the sandbag walls near the cache.

 

THE CACHE IS NOT AT THE LISTED COORDINATES.

This is the final cache in the trail and a puzzle/ mystery.You must use coordinate information found in the other 6 caches to find the coordinates for this one. The listed coords are for parking. We hope you enjoyed the series and learned something about catchments.
