Geocache Description:

In warmer months (months where water is not frozen) you can easily take a canoe or kayak to this location from Waterworks Park Boat Launch. It is about a 10 minute paddle to Round Island. In cold weather the island can be accessed by foot, snowshoe, cross country ski or snowmobile.

The owner Larry Goodrich has given permission to hide a cache on this island. You will see a large sign on one end of the island that says "Private Land---Keep Out", however Mr. Goodrich in the spirit of adventure and getting out into nature, agrees that the geocahcing community is welcome. Mr. Goodrich asks that cachers respect his island. If you see that he or his family are there, please be mindful of this. I have assured the landowner that geocahcers are a respectful lot and will dutifully abide by his request.

Round Island is a very primitive little island in Beaver Dam Lake. For those who may not live nearby, Beaver Dam Lake is a 6718 acre lake located in Dodge County. It has a maximum depth of 7 feet. It's mean depth is just 5 feet. Visitors have access to the lake from public boat landings. Fish include Panfish, Largemouth Bass, Northern Pike and Walleye. The lake's water clarity is very low. Beaver Dam Lake spans approximately 12 miles. Towns around the lake are Beaver Dam, Fox Lake, and Randolph. This is NOT a swimming lake per se. Since it has a shallow depth it makes for a large quantity of green algae in the heigth of summer. Boating is enjoyable on Beaver Dam Lake. The Beaverland Must Skis water ski show team are a well known frequent user of Beaver Dam Lake.

The lake does freeze over in winter time. Caution should always be excercised in cold weather months to be certain the ice is safe.

The cache will be relatively easy to find with just a few steps onto the island. The journey to the cache is the fun of this find.
