Hog Island Lagoon is the second of a series of Narragansett Bay small boat caches that are placed in near shore waters and designed to be reachable by shallow draft vessels such as kayak, canoes, skiffs and paddle boards. I hope it encourages similar placements by others. To retrieve the log: locate the host container then unscrew the small black cap and remove the tightly rolled log sheet. You can lift the whole thing in your boat. BYOP Your care in replacing as found will be appreciated by the next cacher. The log has been “waterproofed” but keeping it as dry as possible will help.

Hog Island is a small oddly shaped island off the Bristol shore used as a summer getaway. There is regular ferry service during the summer months but few if any year round residents. The lagoon on the western shore is a good quohogging area and supports an aquacultural project in it's southern end. Swimming, beachcombing and boating are popular summer activities here. Possible hand carry launch sites include both the old ferry landings at the base of the Mt Hope Bridge and nearby Bristol Harbor (see reference points)
Prevailing summer wind conditions are a morning calm followed by an afternoon sea breeze of 10-15 knots from the SW. Plan accordingly. While the cache can be reached at all tides the currents may affect you. Be aware of other boat traffic and wear your PFD. Have fun out there. Let me know how things are holding up once you find it.
