Loughermore is a public upland coniferous forest park of 1340 hectares in the hills above the Foyle Valley in County Derry/Londonderry.
There is parking available on Myrtle Road which peters out at one of the many gated entrances to the forest. The GPS readings in the area are difficult due to the tree cover but they should get you to the right areas and the descriptions should get you the rest of the way. There are two ways to approach the cache, one is via a gravel forest road to the right a hundred yards or so after you go through the gate. Follow it to the left hand bend and then enter the trees and both stages of the cache are nearby. For the other, and the more fun, go straight ahead past the above junction for a short distance and you will see a grassy path going off into the trees over a knee high bank to your right. It is opposite a tree. After a few yards along the path it passes the roots of three large fallen trees so you will know you are on the right way. Then walk through the trees. You may see the dens built by local children as you go deeper in.
The first stage is to provide you with the equipment to access the cache located at the second stage. The equipment is in a one metre long camouflaged tube. Take careful note of its location and please put everything back, concealed exactly as you found it as there is more activity in the area recently from mountain bikers. You may have to take items from the first stage to the second so make sure you bring them back. As you retrieve the cache please take careful note of where it was so it can go back to the same spot. If you can't get it back leave it under the cairn in the hint, disable the cache and I'll take care of it as soon as I can. If you have any trouble finding the way out use the waypoints and navigate, using them, to your chosen exit.
