Leira går i bunn av Leirdalen og den er grå av partikler fra stein som breene har sprengt løs fra fjellet og malt det. På det meste transporterer elva flere tonn med grus og sand i timen. Den grove massen blir liggende igjen øverst i dalen mens de fineste partiklene blir transporterte heilt til Mjøsa og videre ut i havet.
Leira is a river at the bottom of the valley and is grey from stone and sand that the glaciers have loosened from the earth below and ground to pieces. At the most, the river transports several tonnes of sand and gravel per hour. The coarse particles stay behind high up in the valley, while the finer particles are transported all the way tol lake Mjøsa, and from there out to sea.
