Galena Gateway Park
This cache is a Nano and will be accessible year-round. A special group of volunteers called Friends of Gateway, have been instrumental in the development of this park. You will be able to enjoy scenic views and hiking trails overlooking Galena’s breathtaking views. This park is a natural prairie restoration with some hard surfaces and mown trails. This park is new and in development stages. There are 100 acres of land that includes scenic views, hiking trails and pieces of history throughout the park. The park will be open year-round with summer hikes and winter walks. Wildlife, and views of historical Galena including a windmill, an old barn foundation that has remnants of the first settlers of the land. “The opening of the park in 2014 follows years of effort by citizens, groups, local and state elected officials to assemble the resources to acquire and protect the 100-acre property (City Administrator Mark Moran).” “This signature park and preserve is now available for all to enjoy today and will be preserved for all future generations.”
