Geocache Description:

 photo nepag.jpg

There are actually 1,043 steps in the Thousand Steps Trail. Imagine having to commute each day for work by climbing 1000 steps. In the early 20th century workers at the Jack's Mountain quarry had to make their way up the mountain side daily whether sun, rain, or even snow. At first the only way up the mountain was to follow the switch back railroad lines that curved up the mountain side. In the year of 1936 a flood wiped out the bridge that went crossed the river to Mount Union and the brick factories, causing the miners a delay in work. As the bridge was being replaced, the miners set out buiding the steps into the mountainside making their climb up and down the side of the mountain much safer and easier.

A historical sign is located at the bottom of the steps, which indicates how in the past the area was known as the "Silica Brick Capital of the World". Quarry miners mined for the Tuscarora Sandstone which was used to manufactor silica bricks. These bricks were crucial to the steel, glass, iron, and railroad industries of that time. Mine workers used the many miles of dinkey railroad track to traverse up and down the mountain side, and to bring the silica down from the quarries.

So given the brief history lesson, now you need to find the cache.you are seeking is a bison tube and there is no pen,so bring a pen and no FTF prize.just Bragging rights and the feel of accomplishment that you walked up all them steps and took in the amazing views.
