Il fantasma del Castello di Illasi
Agli inizi dell'Ottocento, nel corso di alcuni lavori di restauro nel castello di Illasi, fu scoperto lo scheletro di una giovane donna, ancora in catene. Per tutti si trattò della rivelazione dell'epilogo della storia del conte Girolamo II Pompei e della sua sposa Ginevra, il cui fantasma vaga da sempre senza pace nel castello: le ossa minute, il piccolo teschio e le catene, raccontavano del terrore e della sofferenza patiti dalla donna in attesa della morte.
Il matrimonio tra Girolamo e Ginevra Serego degli Alighieri, discendente diretta di Dante, era avvenuto nel 1591. Dal momento che il conte era uomo più uso alle armi che non ai salotti, la giovane sposa rimaneva troppo spesso sola: se ne accorse il podestà di Verona, Virginio Orsini, che fece breccia nel cuore della donna dando vita a una passione travolgente. Malgrado la complicità del servitore di lei, la tresca fu scoperta. Costretta a confessare, Ginevra consegnò al marito la spada, perché la trafiggesse per la sua infedeltà. A rimetterci la vita fu invece il servitore, ucciso a pugnalate dal conte.
Ne nacque un processo scomodo, che la Serenissima insabbiò ben presto: d'altronde, Virginio Orsini era fuggito a Roma e qui, catturato dalle truppe pontificie, era stato decapitato. Tutto consigliava dunque il silenzio. Invece, tre anni dopo, Ginevra scomparve improvvisamente. Subito nei dintorni si iniziò a sussurrare come fosse stata murata viva in una segreta del castello. Le illazioni rimasero tali per secoli, fino alla scoperta dei poveri resti dietro la parete: vennero raccolte ossa e catene in un'urna di vetro e poste in una camera buia di Palazzo Pompei nel 1615.
Poi, il colpo di scena: studi successivi hanno stabilito che quelle ossa non possono appartenere a Ginevra, ma a qualche altra infelice vissuta in epoca più recente. Chi era l'altra castellana condannata a una fine così tragica? Che ne è stato di Ginevra degli Alighieri? È davvero suo il fantasma che vaga nel castello, o della dama sconosciuta è stato scambiato anche lo spettro?
Un mistero che si aggiunge al mistero.
The ghost of the castle of Illasi
In the early nineteenth century, during some restoration work in the castle of Illasi, it was discovered the skeleton of a young woman, still in chains. For all it was the revelation of the epilogue of the story of Count Girolamo II Pompeii and his wife Geneva, whose ghost still wanders restlessly in the castle: the bones minute, the small skull and chains, they told of terror and suffering suffered by women waiting for death.
The marriage between Jerome and Geneva Serego Alighieri, direct descendent of Dante, had taken place in 1591. Since the count was a man more used to arms than to the living, the young bride remained too often alone: one noticed the mayor of Verona, Virginio Orsini, who made inroads in the heart of the woman giving birth to an overwhelming passion. Despite the complicity of her servant, the affair was discovered. Forced to confess, Geneva gave her husband the sword, because the pierce to his infidelity. The losers life was instead the servant stabbed to death by Count.
This created an uncomfortable process, the Serenissima covered up quickly: indeed, Virginio Orsini had fled to Rome and here, captured by the papal troops, had been beheaded. Everything therefore counseled silence. Instead, three years later, Geneva suddenly disappeared. Immediately surrounding area began to whisper as she had been buried alive in a dungeon of the castle. The allegations were such for centuries, until the discovery of the poor remains behind the wall: bones were collected and chains in a glass urn and placed in a dark room of Palazzo Pompei in 1615.
Then, the twist: Later studies determined that the bones may belong to Geneva, but to some other unfortunate lived in more recent times. Who was the other castle sentenced to an end so tragic? What became of the Geneva Alighieri? It really is his ghost wandering in the castle, or the unknown lady was traded also the spectrum?
A mystery that adds to the mystery.
