Cache De Ponce De Leon Traditional Cache

This is a nice public park in Punta Gorda. Parking is free and the park is closed from dusk to dawn. "Cache De Ponce De Leon" has a 24/7 view of Charlotte Harbor and you will likely need some agility to get to it. Grippy footwear is a good idea. It should be an easy find for most. This is a nice public park on the north east shore of Charlotte Harbor where the Peace and Myakka rivers come into the harbor. Spanish Explorer Ponce De Leon explored this area in the early 1500's looking for new lands and riches but was attacked, wounded, and driven away by Calusa Indians. I guess the Calusa weren't dependent on tourist dollars back then. Before Ponce was driven from these lands he hid a cache here at Ponce De Leon park. There's a nice sand beach here and a raised boardwalk nature trail through the mangroves. There's also a trail along the shoreline to explore. Lots of good wading bird viewing here and some fishing. Excellent spot to enjoy a sunset.
