< Nakatsugawa Bridge >
Nakatsugawa Bridge is built over the Nakatsugawa River at the western end of Nakatsugawa-juku. The river and the bridge are portrayed by Hiroshige (1797-1858), the ukiyo-e painter of the Edo period.
The river used to be called the Kawakamigawa in the Edo period. At that time, a wooden bridge here was washed away in the flood over and over again, and was rebuilt each time.
You'll enjoy the nice view of mountains from the bridge -- Mt. Ena (alt. 2,191m) to the southeast, Mt. Hoko (alt. 930m) to the south, and Mt. Takamine (alt. 945m) to the north.

＜中津川橋＞
中津川橋は、中津川宿の西の入り口に位置する中津川に掛かる橋で、広重の「中津川宿」にも描かれています。
木曽川に流れ込むこの川は、江戸時代には川上川と呼ばれていました。元々木の橋が掛かっていましたが、洪水のたびに流され、その度に架け替えていた、ということです。
中津川橋の上からは、南東に恵那山(2,191m)、南に保古山(930m)、また北に高峰山(945m)を望むことができます。
