Geocache Description:

Following the success of the first Tregargus Tidy Up CITO this time, we will return to tackle the rubbish in the old wheel pit

What?
This clean-up will take place in the Publically Accessible Tregargus Valley around the newly stabilised Trevear Mill buildings regardless of the weather!

Where?
We will meet at the listed coordinates.
The route to the site is around 1km and is sadly not really suitable for wheelchairs.

When?
Wednesday 2nd September 2015 – After a short Health & Safety briefing, we will be starting at 18:30
This event is scheduled to last for 1 hour.

Why Tregargus Valley?
This valley is a real hidden gem. It was once a thriving hub of industry with many China Stone Mills in operation. One of these China Stone Mills has recently been stabilised to make it safe and protect the industrial archaeology exposed there, but could still benefit from a tidy up to remove the rubbish left by thoughtless individuals. There is also a great trail of caches in the area.

How?
Bin bags and a ladder will be supplied but please bring your own gloves. Also, only use the ladder if you are confident to do so and note that you use the ladder at your own risk.

Socialising Afterwards:
Please feel free to bring your own picnic tea.

Health & Safety/Risk Assessment:
The assessment is laid out as follows:

Hazard – People at risk – Risk level – Action required to reduce risk.

• Cuts to fingers from handling broken glass or sharp litter – Volunteers – Low – Wear gloves.
• Slipping on slopes/climbing on ladder, particularly in wet weather – Volunteers – Medium – Ensure that nobody works alone, or climbs up steep slopes/ladder or on walls unless confident to do so.
• Back injuries from heavy lifting – Volunteers – Medium – Work as a team when faced with heavy objects – If it is too heavy, don’t move it – just mark it as a waypoint and report it to the event organiser.
• Tripping over bags of cleared rubbish - Volunteers & the public – Low – Ensure all volunteers use the designated collection point away from the paths and walkways.
• Infection from needles – Volunteers – Low – Volunteers must not touch a needle if they find one. Any needles or drug paraphernalia needs to be left alone and reported to Cornwall Council on 0300 1234 202
• Catching a disease – Volunteers – Low – Gloves should be worn for the work and hands cleaned thoroughly before eating food or drinking. Report any dead animals to the event organiser who will inform the Local Authority. If you do not like the look of something, do not touch it!

If you wish to come to this event, please post a Will Attend log, as if changes need to be made, I will make an announcement log and you will receive notification of the changes
