Memorial Falls and Olson Falls are within the Twin Falls Plant Preserve, a 15.45 acre parcel owned by the Michigan Nature Preserve. Their goal is to protect Michigan's rare, threatened, and endangered species by protecting the lands and waters they need to survive. Please respect their mission while visiting these waterfalls.
The walls of both waterfall canyons are part of the Munising formation, which consists of sandstone about 550 million years old. The upper rock capping the Munising formation is made of harder dolomite sandstone, known as the Au Train formation. The harder cap erodes at a slower rate than the surrounding rock which results in the shelf over which the water drops.
Portions of the trails leading to the falls are steep and can be slippery. Be sure to supervise young children.
The cache is hidden a short distance off the trail. You do not need to go beyond the handrails to access the cache. GPS reception is difficult. Look for a break in the canopy. Original contents include a FTF Canadian $1 Loonie, a Great Lakes geocoin, and pathtag.
