Any Lower, I'd be in Texas! Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

keltickacher: We put this cache out in 2002 when there were only five active cachers between Albquerque and San Angelo and three of us were on Team ZiaCache in Hobbs. We seeded the Carlsbad area hoping to attract some interest. It took a while, but it finally caught on. I am the only active cacher (kind of) out of ZiaCache. I've adopted off most of the Eddy County caches, but never had anybody want this one.

I don't get over there much anymore and it's a long drive to fix a cache. Maybe once the spot is open somebody will fill it.

Thanks to all who visited!!!

09-21-09 I received an email from the owner of the Daves Virginia Geocoin logged in this cache asking for it to be moved to a more visited cache. I plan to replace the container later this fall, but in the meantime, would the next cacher please pick up the coin? Thanks, KK

08-17-05 Update: The cache container was changed to a much smaller and hopefully more weather resistant container. It has been concealed better in its hiding spot, so please place it back as you found it. Please bring small items to trade.

PLEASE MAKE SURE THE LID IS SNAPPED FULLY INTO PLACE!!!

12-13-03 Update. The No Trespassing sign referred to in a couple of posts pertains to the pasture land to the south of the road. The road to the cache is a marked Eddy County Road and is an open public road. The area immediately surrounding the cache is also public land (at least the NM side). Since they don't have a fence along the south side of the road, I guess where they posted the sign is about the only place they could find, but it is misleading. We are sorry for the confusion! Team ZiaCache

The highest point in NM is Wheeler Peak (13,171'). This cache is very near the lowest (2850'). The actual low spot is about 400' east of the cache. When you find the cache, you will see why we did not place the cache at the actual low spot!

Here is an interesting geographical trivia point. Stand atop the ridge just west of the cache. Looking less than a half mile east, you can see the lowest spot in NM. Look due west and you can clearly see Guadalupe Peak (8,749'), the highest point in Texas. These spots are only 55 miles apart.

Anybody know of another point in the US where you can stand in two states at the same time & see the lowest point in one state and the highest in another???

The state line between Texas and New Mexico was defined as the 32nd parallel (32 degrees north). The state line markers in the vicinity of the cache all measure out to N32° 00.009. I guess this is as close as they could come in 1859 and 1911.

We placed the cache as close to the line as we could. When you post your find, give your opinion as to which state it is in.

This cache is a small container that blends with the surroundings.
