Mount Kidd from Wedge Pond:
Begin your day by parking at the Galatea parking lot. Proceed up the Galatea trail, crossing over two bridges. At a trail junction, turn right onto the Terrace Trail. Proceed up to the washed out drainage at the base of Mount Kidd. Although there appears to be a trail that branches off and to the left up through the trees, ignore it. Travel up the washed out creekbed for about 200 meters and head over to the right side of the creek. Stay on the right side of the creek and continue up until you spot a trail. This trail heads along the right side of the creek as you're going up. Stay on this trail and follow it up the drain.
Eventually you will hit some stunning waterfalls. Follow the trail on the right or scramble up to the right of the waterfalls. Continue on up and rejoin the trail at the top of the waterfalls. Continue on up the bowl. The terrain starts to get steep and loose. Up ahead, you will see some steep slabs. Approach them on the left side near a rock fin. While the slabs are steep, they offer solid footing. Go further left for a slight trail. Once above the slabs, several towers loom above you
Continue up to find a slight trail, and follow it to the right. It traverses below a large buttress and continues up a gully. The scrambling here is in the moderate range (would be much more difficult with rain or snow). Scramble up to an amazing overlook. From here, the terrain is easy but loose. Continue up on a trail hitting a rock cairn. From here, 300 m of loose scree stands between you and the summit.
Once on top, the cache is located just North of the summit! Return the same way you ascended. For more information refer to Alan Kane's "Scrambles in the Canadian Rockies".
SPECIAL NOTES: This is bear country! Also note that the scramble ascent goes directly up a prominent avalanche gully. You may want to wait for the snow to melt before attempting. Also, bring spoiler photos to guarantee your find. Good Luck!
