The Great Arkansas River Clean Up is happening statewide on this date. There will be boats all along the Arkansas River picking up trash, I thought we could help by getting trash in this area before it makes it to the water. There was A LOT of flooding in this entire area earlier this year and I"m sure that brought a lot of trash into this area. Let's go clean it up!
We will meet at Mike Meyers Park at the end of Main Street in Van Buren (posted coords) at 9 a.m. Sign the log, chit chat, swap trackables, grab a trash bag and go. Finish up around 11 a.m.
Here's where the fun part comes in...bring your bicycle if you have one and let's get a ride in while cleaning up the area. It is almost a 4 mile loop from the starting coords to the boat ramp NW of here and back. That would be a great route for those with bicycles. For those without a bike or those just wanting to walk, the area of Mike Meyers park and around the marina would be a good place to clean. And nothing says you can't walk the loop or part of it, folks do it all the time. :D
If you're on your bike it will be a lot of get off bike, get trash, get back on bike, etc. We had so much fun doing this last year.
Keep Van Buren Beautiful will loan us supplies, but bring grabbers and gloves if you have them.
I also recommend sturdy shoes. This area was under water for a couple of weeks and it brought more trash and creepy crawlies in for sure, so keep your eyes open and be safe. :D
