In order to log this cache, you must message me the answers to the following questions: 1) How are calcite formations made? 2) Approximately what color do the calcite formations have? 3) What types of calcite formations can be observed in the caves? 4) How was the cave created before the calcite formations began to form? 5) Here's an optional one... post a picture of yourself at the caverns.
The Shasta Caverns was formed in the limestone beds in the Klamath Mountain range. The limestone beds were hollowed out by running water to form a cave. During the process of the limestone bed being hollowed out, the calcite formations were form. Calcite formations are made when calcium carbonate slowly accumulates, which is created when acid rain hits the limestone; it takes hundreds of years for these formations to form. Some calcite formations that are in the Shasta Caverns are stalactites and stalagmites. Stalactites are formations that hang from the ceiling and look like an icicle. Stalagmites are formations that look like an icicle and are formed on the ground. Congrats to PQCaching, the FTF!
