Joe's Dam Caches #31 Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Reviewer Revan: Cache Owner (CO) has not responded, so I am regretfully archiving this cache to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking new cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace this cache sometime in the future (not to exceed 10 days from the date of this entry), just contact me (by e-mail), and assuming it still meets the current Guidelines, I will consider unarchiving this cache.

Please be advised this is not a guarantee that this geocache will be unarchived. Many factors will go into my decision. The most important of which is how you responded to geocachers who tried to communicate with you regarding the problem(s) with this geocache hide and how you communicated with me, the Reviewer Revan.

Geocache Description:

Thanks to Zeke's Uncle for placing caches #1-30. I have placed some additional ones to complete the trail and to mark the beginning of it.

It can definately be hot on top of the dam in the summer. Go for the caches early in the morning or wait until summer is over. As noted by Zeke's Uncle there are two ways to access the trail. Lake Ridge parkway near the entrance to Lynn Creek Park has a few side road parking spaces there. There are no signs telling you not to park, but be sure to park to the side so that service and emergency vehicles can get onto the dam if required.  The best access is off of FM 1382 between Camp Wisdom Road and the entrance to Cedar Hill State Park. If you are heading south on 1382 the entrance is to the right just as soon as you crest the hill. You will not see the sign until you get to the entrance. There is some overlook parking. The asphault road on top of the dam is in decent condition and suitable for bike riding. Stopping every .1 mile is sort of a hassle, however once you have found all of the caches it is much easier to get back to the parking area if you are riding a bike.:)

As always, you must sign the log to claim the find.

Joe Pool Lake was named after Joe Pool, a congressman from the Oak Cliff area of Dallas who represented this district from 1963 until his death in 1968. Pool was highly influential in passage of legislation and funding of the lake. Construction of the lake dam was completed in December 1985. Impoundment of water began in January 1986 and the lake was filled by June 1989.  There are several areas to camp and recreate at Joe Pool Lake. Cedar Hill State Park is on the northeast side of the lake. Two parks belonging to the city of Grand Prairie are on the northwest side of the lake.
