I can highly recommend the booklet “The Three Lochs Way” which is available at various Visitors’ Centres, from accommodation providers or online on their website. It has detailed and helpful information about distances, waypoints and coordinates as well as background information on the various points of interest.
Until recently, the path of The Three Lochs Way near Arrochar took you on a loop along the south side of the train tracks of the Highland train to Tarbet and to the "Arrochar and Tarbet" train station. From there, over to Arrochar again.
Thanks to great efforts of voluntary members of the Helensburgh & District Access Trust and their funding partners, a new path, a few hundred metres long, was established to link the TLW with the town of Arrochar. For those hiking the entire long distance trail and staying in Arrochar for the night, it means reducing the last 4.5 km to about 1 km. For the occasion of the official opening on the 22nd August 2015, we have placed a couple of new caches.
What's in the title?
We've placed this cache at the beginning of August, took several readings from a gpsr and a few attempts with two different apps on the smartphone. We also took a few million midge bites home with us....
We then returned to the location on the 22nd August 2015, wanting to take more readings, however we could not find it...... initially! Hence the title.
If it is a phone you're using, all we can say is GOOD LUCK. This is a spot where you might be better off with a proper GPSr. Eventually we got hold of the container, took some more readings and took some photos too, just in case. The difficulty rating is taking this fact into consideration.
If you've come all the way from Garelochhead and heading for Arrochar, it is not far now to the new fingerpost indicating the new path and shortcut leading steep downhill and under the sheep creep to Arrochar.
